Mobitex is already widely used in public transport and has increased profitability while improving service in many organizations. Today there are literally hundreds of solutions readily available that use Mobitex as the wireless carrier.
An overall traffic management system built on real-time database access, gives traffic controllers full contact with all parts of the system. When drivers are equipped with Mobitex terminals, traffic controllers are able to send written messages from their computers to each vehicle, providing information about delays and traffic jams, for example. The system normally includes AVL (automatic vehicle location), which allows controllers to continuously trace and project a vehicle's location, speed and direction. Also, a number of taxi companies use Mobitex for fleet management and vehicle dispatch thereby increasing customer service and generating more revenues for drivers.
Mobitex offers end-to-end solutions and turnkey applications for both local and nationwide taxi organizations. Based on industry standards and using off-the-shelf components wherever possible, these solutions include computer-aided dispatching and vehicle tracking functions, designed to meet the specific requirements on POS/EFT applications, supporting wireless payment at the point of transaction. Terminals vary with the applications but are typically PC-based and support standard functions for computer-aided dispatching and automatic vehicle location, as well as functions specific to the application.
