The Mobitex Software Switch is an efficient and reliable switching unit. It is connected to the NCC (Network Control Center) and to other Mobitex switches over the Mobitex Backbone and supports connectivity to base stations and hosts through both TCP/IP and X.25. The switch is is a true software based switch running on a standard SUN Solaris hardware platform. Software can be downloaded remotely over the network or on site from a portable PC.

The switch holds subscription data for all subscribers currently roamed into its branch of the network. It compiles and forwards billing information and statistics to the Network Control Center. The Software Switch replaces the older MX based switches and consolidates the proven and reliable Mobitex switching functions, i.e. the MOX, the IAS gateway, the network location servers DRR and NLS onto one single platform.
